History

2007 onwards

Further expansions to major ports around the globe have resulted in a company that today is one of world's leading ship suppliers.

On May 15th 2007 Wrist Group A/S was sold to the Nordic private equity fond Altor. With a continued focus on futher expansions to major ports around the world’s shipping lanes, Wrist Ship Supply has diversified and developed into one of the world’s leading ship supply companies.

1985 - 1988:
Over the years the buildings have undergone considerable extension to meet the growing demand for space. The company, too, has grown with the aquisition of Henry O. Pedersen Eftf. in Nørresundby, in 1972, A. Chr. Berthelsen ApS in the spring of 1985 and Kaj Madsens Eftf. in 1988.

1981:
In 1981, the independent subsidiary O.W.Bunker & Trading was founded, followed two years later by Alba Shipping A/S. In late 1982, the company moved to it's present address at Gasværksvej 48 in Aalborg, into purpose built premises with every modern facility and installaton.

1970s:

In the late 1960's and early 1970's, the Danish shipyards produced many coasters and Ove Wrist & Co. A/S was kept busy, meeting equipment orders. This work led to the first ship-stores orders from outside Denmark, with deliveries to the Kiel Canal and to ships at ports in Northern Germany. In the mid 1970's, after another move to larger premises, the company had developed a large customer base of shipowners in the south Funen area. As a result of this activity Svendborg Ships Supply (Svendborg Skibshandel) was purchased.

Shortly after this aquisition, several custom-built and partly refrigerated lorries were added to the business, making international orders an everyday event. Deliveries could now be made to ships all over continental Europe, Scandinavia and the UK.

1966:
In 1966, Ove Wrist retired from the business and the firm was transformed into a limited company under the name of Ove Wrist & Co. A/S. At that time, the firm employed seven employees and the business covered all of Denmark with deliveries of ship supplies to all Danish ports.

1960:
After a couple of years, Ove Wrist moved his business to larger premises, with room enough for a grocery shed, a tiny office and a small store room. By that time the firm employed four persons and by 1960 the business had again grown enough to require another change of address with even more space

1950s:
In the early 1950's, after having worked many years for the ship supplier Axel Carlsen, 56 year old Ove Wrist was urged by two good friends to start his own company. They agreed to act as guarantors and in 1953, Ove Wrist rented a small store room in C. Clausen's Warehouse in the port of Aalborg on the present site of the Limfjordsterminalen. During the first few years, Ove Wrist mainly served small coasters coming to the ports of Aalborg and Nørresundby, but as time went by vessels from Finland and Sweden joined the list of customers. They were often in Aalborg shipyards for extended periods of repair.
